Capella State High School has fully implemented the Australian Curriculum and the Queensland P–12 curriculum, assessment and reporting framework.

Year 7 and Year 8

In years 7 and 8, our students undertake a course of study that comprises all learning areas over a two-year period. They study:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Science
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Creative Industries (students select two subjects per year from Drama, Music, Media Arts, and Visual Arts)
  • Technologies (Design and Technology and Food Specialisations)
  • Languages (German)

As part of Extend—our curriculum extension programme—all students of years 7 and 8 attend both a specialist literacy lesson and a specialist STEM lesson each week.

Year 9 and Year 10

In years 9 and 10, students begin to personalise their learning pathway in preparation for the senior phase of learning. The suite of learning for students of years 9 and 10 encompasses the core subjects of:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • History
  • Science
  • Health and Physical Education

Students also select from a range of complementary elective studies, including one selection from:

  • Agricultural Technologies
  • Drama
  • Food Studies

And one selection from:

  • Industrial Technology and Design
  • Film and Television
  • Visual Arts

Students, through their parents, can opt into our work-ready programme, Explore—an alternative study of literacy and numeracy that focuses on fostering the skills that have a direct correlation to a variety of post-schooling pathways. Explore is designed for students of years 9 and 10 who have expressed desire to join the workforce or seek a post-schooling apprenticeship or traineeship, and replaces mainstream English and Mathematics on their timetable.

Year 10

In year 10, students develop their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan. This personal plan assists each individual young person to explore the range of senior education options available to them and to make choices about further learning and career pathways. The SET Plan is a roadmap for the senior phase of learning and can include flexible learning options.
