Head of Special Education Services (HOSES)

Capella State High School is the base school for Ms Amanda Wischusen, Head of Special Education Services -Northern Coalfields Special Education Program.  This program services Tieri State School, Capella State School, Capella State High School, Clermont State School, Clermont State High School, Kilcummin State School and Mistake Creek State School. Amanda Wischusen is currently at Capella SHS on Mondays and Tuesdays and can be contacted via email


Special Education Program

Capella State High School encourages inclusive education practices where all students are able to access the curriculum with their peers in the classroom environment. The Special Education Program caters for students who have been verified with a disability or impairment. The Capella State High School teaching team consists of teachers and teacher aides who work together to ensure every student succeeds to their full potential. Each student, along with their parents/carers work collaboratively with the Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) to set the goals of their Individual Support Plan. These plans enable students to maximize their learning outcomes. Capella State High School’s teaching team are committed to providing a quality, individualized curriculum enabling all students to achieve success in their learning.


Learning Support

Learning Support Programs are offered throughout the Junior Secondary years at Capella State High School with the programs being overseen by the Principal, Head of Junior Secondary, the HOSES and the Year 7 teacher. These programs are designed to improve the students’ ability to access the curriculum with a focus on literacy skills including; decoding, reading comprehension, spelling and grammar. Current programs offered at Capella State High School include; Support-A-Reader, Words Their Way, and Corrective Reading.
